Notes on Hope is meant to be a soft landing place for reflection on the work of holding hope in our often worried world and parenting toward a better future. It’s always easier to hold onto hope when we are not doing it alone.
Poetry and prose, reason and affect, argument and image all stirred me deeply as I listened to this first of what I hope will be many more posts. I look forward to sharing with my early childhood colleagues and friends -- parents, grandparents and all those concerned with the next generation. The message is clear: we must love the world, and communicate that love to the young, even as we rage against injustice and mourn the losses that mark all our lives.
Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words, Jonathan. Your own writing has certainly blazed a trail for navigating the intertwined work of love, mourning, and repair with honesty and courage, both in our own lives and in our relationships with children.
Wow. I read it and listened to it, your voice sounding reassuring and strong. I often worry about the world that my grandson will be inheriting. Thank you for helping me be tender and brave in your hopefulness.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Nancy. I know your grandson will make a positive difference in the world, because he has such a wonderful model in you.
